Biography

Born in North Yorkshire in 1989, Matt has been playing the saxophone since the age of 13.

In 2007 he moved to Leeds to study on the BA (Hons) Jazz course at Leeds College of Music, graduating in 2010 with First Class Honours and also receiving the Sam Hood Rosebowl for Outstanding Performance (Jazz).

He now performs with and composes for various projects around the UK, notably the Matt Anderson Quartet, his new ‘Songs of the Ridings’ project commissioned by Creative North Yorkshire, the Tobie Carpenter / Matt Anderson Quartet, Tesseract, and Matt Roberts’ Tribute to Miles Davis.

Matt is a member of Jazz Yorkshire’s Futures scheme, and was awarded ‘Young Musician of the Year’ in the Jazz Yorkshire Awards 2010.
